Responding to a UI Claim – Time is of the Essence
June 2009Responding to claims in a timely manner can make the difference in whether your organization wins or loses a case.
- If your organization is in a state where the claim is sent directly to the employer, you can save a lot of time by including documentation for the claim along with the claim itself when you forward it to your claims consultant at TALX UC eXpress.
- If your organization is in a state where the claims go directly to TALX UC eXpress, it is very important that you respond quickly to your claims consultant’s request for documentation.
- In all states, every day that passes increases the possibility of missing a state deadline, which might result in an automatic employer loss of the claim.
What does “documentation” include? First, it should state the reason for the separation: was it a quit or a discharge. If it was a quit, do you have a letter of resignation? If it was a discharge, was the discharge for misconduct or was it performance based? Was counseling with the employee given? Do you have written warnings you can include? Please send whatever documentation you have to your claims consultant.
In all cases, your claims consultant can help you determine what is considered good documentation. If you’re not certain, contact her as soon as you can. Remember, timely responses can save your organization a lot of money.
